Byron Kauffman, CLU, CPCU, ChFC

Byron Kauffman, President of Wetzel Insurance Agency, Inc. is a Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU); and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) who works with business decision makers to define and manage risk associated with property, business operations, products, employment, workers compensation, commercial auto and employee benefits. Byron earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from DePauw University and a Master of Business Administration from the Neeley School of Business, Texas Christian University.

Byron believes the customer should know and understand the purpose and function of their risk management program. They should be confident in the effectiveness and value of the solutions presented. Ultimately Byron serves to be the binding hands of trust between the customer and underwriter. When the customer knows and understands the solution and the underwriter confidently knows the risk they are assuming–everyone wins.
Byron works with start-up to seasoned businesses, first generation to generations of family businesses, small and large employers, and with businesses with millions of dollars in assets. He is consulted by peers, industry veterans, and professionals regarding issues of insurance, contractual coverage and risk transfer.

As President, Byron has led Wetzel to multiple awards as an Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America Best Practices Agency. The annual Study of leading independent insurance agencies documents the business practices of the “best” agencies and urges others to adopt similar practices. In the present study group, over 1,000 independent agencies throughout the U.S. were nominated to take part in the annual Study, but only 262 agencies qualified for the honor. To be chosen, the agency had to be among the 35-45 top-performing agencies in one of six revenue categories.
