By now probably most of you know that driving without insurance is against the law, but do you know that consequences that come along with it? You might think that you are saving yourself some money by not getting insurance, but I can tell you right now that driving without insurance is a quick way to screw up your life.
You may be wondering how this is accurate. Driving without insurance can’t possibly screw up my life that bad. It’s not like I’m going to go to jail for it. While it is true that you probably aren’t going to be sent to jail for driving without insurance, you are subjecting yourself to an immediate suspension of your driving privileges. This may not seem like screwing up your life, but let’s take it further. What happens if you get in an accident when you are driving without insurance?
Well for starters, you aren’t getting your license back any time soon, but that isn’t all. Along with that, any damages to either a person or property caused by the accident will now have to be paid by you, whether or not it was your fault. If you don’t have the money to cover these costs, your assets such as your home could be taken from you to pay for them. All because you decided to try to save a buck by not getting insurance.
If you are pulled over and the police officer finds you don’t have insurance, there are a few penalties you might face right then as well. Along with suspending your license, the officer could decide to have your vehicle registration suspended as well, no to mention the ticket you will receive for a no insurance violation. This is in addition to the traffic ticket(s) that you probably already got for the original reason you were pulled over.
Now you have all of these fines and bills piling up, but you have to keep in mind that this isn’t it. There are also added fines that you will have to face when you are eventually able to reinstate your license and registration. You might even have an increase in future insurance premiums.
So listen to me when I say that the risks of driving without insurance are far too great. While the cost of auto insurance may seem like a lot, remember that it is to keep you protected. Just consider the hit to your finances if something were to happen when you weren’t insured.
