The below interview is with Doug Ault. Doug has been in the insurance industry for a long time and has an immense amount of knowledge. He manages commercial accounts from the Warsaw office.
WHAT DID YOU DO BEFORE BECOMING INVOLVED WITH WETZEL?
I was an owner of Randall Yeager Insurance Agency in Warsaw for 22 years and sold to Wetzel in 2001.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED IN THE INSURANCE BUSINESS?
I graduated from Manchester College in 1971 and went to work for the Strayer Insurance Agency in Warsaw as a property-casualty agent.
WHAT IS THE BEST PART OF YOUR JOB?
The best part of my job is the hundreds of customers I’ve had the chance to interact with over my career. Many of my customers have become life-long friends.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BECOME AN INSURANCE AGENT OR WORK IN THE INDUSTRY?
Receiving a degree in insurance at the college level might be ideal, but I think once you make that choice to be in the business, do everything you can do to increase your knowledge. There are a number of designations that you can strive for and many opportunities for continuing education, but perhaps the most important might be learning from your peers. Our industry has many people that have a vast amount of knowledge and you need to be receptive of that knowledge. Even after 44 years in the business, there isn’t a week that goes by that I don’t learn something new from someone else.
